As the Associate Degree Nursing Program team leader, Dr. Holly Crane manages numerous responsibilities in the Meridian Community College health education program.

"There are many moving parts to the ADN program, and Holly ensures things run as smoothly as possible," said Dr. Lara Collum, associate vice president of nursing and health care, about Dr. Crane. She added, "Holly is one of the hardest working people at MCC and so deserving of the MCCer of the Month recognition."

Leia Hill, vice president for institutional advancement and executive vice president of the MCC Foundation, announced Dr. Crane as MCCer of the Month for August during the College's convocation. The MCC Foundation sponsors this monthly award to exemplify the College's hardworking employees who go above and beyond their job duties. In addition to a commemorative plaque, honorees are given a $250 cash award.

An alumna of MCC, Dr. Crane started studying nursing in the College's ADN program immediately after she graduated from Meridian High School; her first job was as a nursing student at Riley Hospital. After practicing in the private sector for 20 years, she returned to college to earn her bachelor's degree from the University of Southern Mississippi in 2003. Three years later, she received her master's degree from USM, and in 2015, she was awarded a Ph.D. in nursing administration and education from William Carey University.

August marks Dr. Crane's 20th year at MCC.

When asked what's the most enjoyable aspect of her job, she said, "The ability to help faculty and students excel in what they do." Others see the fruits of her labor. "She is insightful and possesses a wealth of information. Holly is available daily (even on the weekends and after hours) to assist with student issues or answer questions," said a nominator about Dr. Crane.

Dr. Collum added, "Patient, kind, dedicated, generous, dependable, a person of integrity are words that come to mind when I think of Holly. She makes MCC a better place."

Dr. Crane follows the philosophy of “look for ways to make someone's day better," she said.

When she's not helping MCCers, Dr. Crane enjoys working outside and walking. Her family is her heart. "I am married to Jay Crane and we have Matthew, Jay, his wife Jazmine, and the most amazing granddaughter: Birdie Zane Crane, who is nine months old."
