MCC Graphic Art students win at state art show

Viskiyya MuhammadTwo Meridian Community College Graphic Design Program students won first and third place awards for their submissions to the 2022 Mississippi Community College Art Instructor Association (MCCAIA) Student Art Competition and Show.

Taking first place in Digital/Computer Art was Brian Lummus of Meridian for the piece, November Prince. Viskiyya Muhammad of Meridian won third place for her work, Viskiyya.

MCC students competed with students from Copiah-Lincoln, East Central, East Mississippi, Hinds, Itawamba, Holmes, Mississippi Gulf Coast, Northwest, and Southwest community colleges and Jones College.

More than 170 pieces of art are featured in this show, including painting, mixed media, drawing, two-dimensional and three-dimensional designs, digital/computer art, photography, printmaking, and ceramics.

All entries will be on display throughout March. The winners will receive ribbons and cash awards at the show’s awards presentation and reception on April 1 at Jones College.
