Sweet tradition rolls on: Candy Cruise Around the Track returns Oct. 23

Meridian Community College is gearing up for one of its most anticipated family events of the fall, Candy Cruise Around the Track, set for Thursday, Oct. 23, from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at the MCC Track.
Admission is free and open to the public.
“This event has truly become a community favorite,” said Jan Murphy, MCC Eagle’s Nest Bookstore Manager. “Every year, we see families, students, and community members coming together in such a fun and positive way.”
Hosted by the MCC Eagle’s Nest Bookstore and sponsored by the MCC Foundation, the Candy Cruise brings together campus teams and organizations who transform the track into a colorful lineup of themed booths overflowing with candy and creativity. Each station is uniquely decorated, with students and employees dressed in festive costumes ready to hand out treats and share in the Halloween spirit.
Dr. Leia Hill, MCC vice president for institutional advancement and executive director of the MCC Foundation, said the Foundation is proud to help make the event possible. “The Candy Cruise is a wonderful way to connect with our community and celebrate together,” Hill said. “It captures the heart of who we are at MCC—welcoming, inclusive, and committed to creating moments that bring people joy.”
Last year, some visitors filled the track, collecting about 1,100 pounds of candy (81,000 pieces) from MCC students, faculty, staff, and administrators. The event’s popularity continues to grow each year as families look forward to the creative themes and interactive fun.
A special early admission from 5 to 5:30 p.m. will be offered for guests with special needs, providing a sensory-friendly experience with smaller crowds and easier access.
Murphy added that the early admission option, from 5 to 5:30 p.m., ensures all guests can comfortably enjoy the experience. “We want every child to be able to take part in this celebration,” she said. Guests needing special accommodations can request a pass by calling 601.484.8650.
Originally launched in 2020 as a drive-through event during the pandemic, Candy Cruise has since evolved into an in-person celebration that combines the best of MCC’s creativity and community spirit.
Murphy noted, “The best thing about Candy Cruise is the joy that it brings. Faculty, staff, and students, come together to have a great community event. The kids love to take pictures with all of the different characters, and we love it, too. It shows that MCC likes to have fun while getting a quality education!”
