MCC ranks second in Mississippi for spring enrollment growth

Meridian Community College is one of the fastest-growing community colleges in the state this spring, ranking second in Mississippi for spring-to-spring headcount growth, according to the Mississippi Community College Board’s 10-day enrollment report.

MCC posted an 11.6 percent increase in headcount and a 10.3 percent increase in student credit hours, both more than double the state average. Community colleges across Mississippi reported an average headcount increase of 4.7 percent and student credit hour growth of 4.2 percent.

Headcount reflects the number of individual students enrolled, while student credit hours measure how many classes those students are taking. Growth in both areas signals not only increased enrollment, but also students committing to full course loads and steady progress toward their academic and career goals.

“What stands out most is the gap between MCC and the state average,” said MCC President Dr. Tom Huebner. “That growth reflects the work of our faculty and staff and the trust students place in us.”

Dr. Huebner said the increase is the result of a campus-wide effort. Recruiters share the College’s message. Staff process applications and evaluate transcripts. Financial aid teams help families understand costs. Faculty teach and mentor students. Student services staff support them from the first day of class through completion.

“The work we do is transformational for our students and our community,” Dr. Huebner said. “We know who we are, the value we bring, and we tell our story with pride and excellence.”

College leaders noted the continued growth reflects students taking meaningful steps toward degrees, workforce training, and new opportunities for themselves and their families. The momentum positions MCC for continued success as more students pursue affordable, high-quality education close to home.
