MCC Pantry Food Drive sparks friendly competition for a good cause

Meridian Community College is turning a little friendly competition into an opportunity to help students in need.
The Margaret Taylor Blalock Resource Center is hosting the MCC Pantry Food Drive Competition, inviting faculty, staff, students and campus organizations to collect food and household essentials for the MCC Pantry. Donations are due Thursday, Nov. 12.
Departments, programs, athletic teams, student organizations and groups of friends
are encouraged to join the challenge, with one team already setting the standard.
MCC's Adult Education team has taken home the Pantry Food Drive Trophy for three consecutive years. This year's competition will determine whether the reigning champions can defend their title or a new team will claim the top spot.
The group collecting the most donations will receive the coveted trophy, a basket of holiday snacks and treats, and campus bragging rights.
Beyond the competition, the drive supports the MCC Pantry's mission of providing students with access to food and everyday essentials.
Items needed include canned fruit, packaged meats, soups, pasta sauce, peanut butter, jelly, shelf-stable milk, easy-to-prepare meals, snacks and basic household supplies. Donations of holiday meal items, including stuffing, gravy, sweet potatoes and pie filling, are also encouraged.
Green beans and peas are not needed at this time.
Whether contributing a few items or organizing a department-wide collection, every donation helps keep the pantry stocked for MCC students.
With the trophy up for grabs and a meaningful cause at the heart of the competition, the MCC campus community has plenty of reasons to get involved.
