Foundation applauds donors, honors leaders at membership celebration
The Meridian Community College Foundation welcomed new members into its distinguished donor circles during the 2024 Annual Membership Celebration.
The Foundation works to bring in private donations to support Meridian Community College’s
goal of providing high-quality education. 
This year’s event at Northwood Country Club marked the third year that individuals and groups were recognized for their ongoing support. Lifetime giving levels are grouped in categories: Emerald Club, $1 million-plus; 1937 Society Platinum Wings, $251,000-plus; 1937 Society Gold Wings, $101,000 to $250; 1937 Society Silver Wings, $51,000-$100,000; and 1937 Bronze Wings, $25,000-$50,000.
BankPlus, Wendy Lerner, Meyer & Rosenbaum Inc., and WTOK TV were inducted into the Gold Wings. Silver Wings inductees were Allie Cat Run & Festival Fund, Alice and Austin James, Lockheed Martin Aeronautical, Hilda and Clarence Roberts, Randy and Marcia Sanders West, and The White Family Foundation, while Bronze Wings inductees were Burns & Burns Inc., Construction Services Inc., Richard Dixon, Downtown Optimist Club Inc., and Tom and Mindy Huebner.
Foundation Board members with long-time service were also acknowledged. Tim Hogan was honored for his two decades of service, and the late Jerry Greene was remembered for his 31 years on the board.
“Many board members have served the MCC Foundation for 20 years or more,” said Dr. Leia Hill, vice president for institutional advancement and executive director of the MCC Foundation. Dr. Hill also serves as the secretary for the MCC Foundation Board.
She explained the Foundation, which started in 1970, has been guided by the wisdom and leadership of its members. She noted that board members have given their time and resources and invested in the lives of MCC students who, in turn, make a difference in their communities.
Also spotlighted were Alan Lamar, who was an MCC Foundation board member for 19 years and was also treasurer for the board during his tenure, and C.D. Smith, who is outgoing president.
New Foundation officers were applauded: Russell Thompson, president; Hampton Thames, vice president, and Pam Harrison, treasurer.
Guests enjoyed music from the re-organized Jazz Band, making its public debut. The band is led by Chris King, director of bands at the College.
