Meridian Community College President Dr. Tom Huebner spoke to Practical Nursing Program students about an aspect of their future careers: non-verbal communication.
Having taught communication courses for two decades, often including new student nurses, Dr. Huebner shared his experience, explaining how non-verbal cues can speak louder than words.
"Researchers have found that 65 to 94 percent of all communication is non-verbal," he said. "That's a lot of communication happening without saying a word." He explained how tiny, often unconscious micro—reactions shape how others perceive us.
"More than half of your decision to like someone is based on facial expression alone," Dr. Huebner noted, adding that while we can control what we say, our non-verbal reactions can reveal true feelings in seconds.
