HonorStride 2025 brings MCC, community together in support of veterans

With flags in hand and voices in conversation, Meridian Community College students, employees, and community members came together on the College’s walking path for HonorStride 2025.

The annual event raises awareness about the challenges veterans face, including mental health concerns and suicide prevention.

Now in its second year, HonorStride also paid tribute to military veterans and remembered the late Bridgette Rochelle Horn, a former Meridian Police Department officer and veteran.

Before and after the walk, attendees visited resource tables to learn about local services available to support veterans.

Shaquita Hopson Alfonso, MCC’s associate director of military and veterans services, said studies show an average of 22 veterans die by suicide each day. “We want people to be aware,” she said. “For veterans and others, there are resources out there to help.”
