MCC hosts two holiday concerts to celebrate the season

Meridian Community College invites the campus and community to enjoy two evenings of festive music performed by students, faculty, staff, and community members, offering a way to get into the holiday spirit with the Music Department and Jazz Band.

The Jazz Band will kick off the celebrations on Tuesday, Dec. 3, at 7 p.m. in Highland Baptist Church. Guests can look forward to a lively program featuring jazzed-up holiday classics and timeless favorites. Chris King is the director of bands.

Then, on Thursday, Dec. 5, the MCC Music Department, including MCC Guitar Ensemble, MCC Concert Choir, and MCC Dimensions, will host their annual holiday concert at 7 p.m. in College Park Methodist Church. This event will showcase a variety of seasonal songs from "O Come, O Come Immanuel" to "Be a Light" to "Grown Up Christmas List." Audience members are encouraged to participate in a carol sing-along as a part of the program. Mitch Brantley is the director of the MCC Guitar Ensemble, Tammy Miles is the director of the MCC Dimensions, and Miles and Twyla Hurst are directors and accompanists for the MCC Concert Choir.

Both concerts are free and open to the public. Guests attending the Jazz Concert are encouraged to donate canned food to the MCC Food Pantry.

Brantley, the Fine Arts and Communications Division chairman, said the performers look forward to the event. "We're excited to share our students' hard work and talent," Brantley said. "These concerts are a gift to our community and a celebration of the season."
