Hill to receive academic honor society's distinguished administrator award

Leia HillMeridian Community College Vice President of Institutional Advancement and Executive Director of the MCC Foundation Leia Hill will be named Distinguished College Administrator during the Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society's annual convention in Columbus, Ohio, in April.

The Distinguished College Administrator Awards are given to community college vice presidents, deans, or leaders other than college presidents/CEOs serving a community college in an administrative capacity who have demonstrated a strong level of support for Phi Theta Kappa.

A graduate of MCC, Hill has worked at the College for more than 12 years in roles that include foundation program coordinator and associate vice president of communications. Hill, who is currently pursuing a doctorate in educational leadership from the University of Southern Mississippi, holds a bachelor's degree in communication from Mississippi University for Women, a graduate certificate in social media marketing from the University of Florida, and a master's degree in educational leadership from the University of Mississippi. Other accolades she has received include Mississippi's Top Leading Business Women and the National Council for Marketing and Public Relations District Two Communicator of the Year Award.

Hill said receiving the Distinguished College Administrator Award is an honor. “The work Phi Theta Kappa advisors and students accomplish on campus is inspiring. I consider it a privilege to support the efforts of our MCC faculty, staff, and students, who continually strive for excellence in and out of the classroom," she said.

MCC President Dr. Tom Huebner said Hill's work demonstrates her passion for the College and noted she is committed to the success of all students. "She focused leader as well as an advocate for our students, our community, and the life-changing educational opportunities that can be found at MCC," he said.

Advisors to the College's PTK chapter, Nu Upsilon, echoed the sentiments. “We are thankful for all the support our administration team continually provides our PTK chapter and students. Leia is no exception; we are excited she was chosen for this honor. Leia is always seeking innovative ways to highlight student success and enjoys celebrating others, so it is certainly fitting we take this opportunity to celebrate her," said Phyllis Holladay, one of the three Nu Upsilon chapter advisors.
