Highest-Flying Eagle Award presented to cabinet members
For the first time in his presidency at MCC, Dr. Thomas Huebner presented the William F. Scaggs Highest-Flying Eagle Award during the virtual convocation.
Recipients include members of the President’s Cabinet: Lauren Clay, executive assistant to the president; Annette Cook interim vice president for student success; Pam Harrison, chief financial officer; Leia Hill, vice president for institutional advancement and executive director of the MCC Foundation; Joseph Knight, vice president for workforce solutions; and Michael Thompson, vice president for academic affairs. Retired Vice President for Operations Soraya Welden also received the honor.
The award, given at the president's discretion, recognizes the MCCers’ untiring devotion to the College and their modeling of MCC’s highest ideals. Dr. Huebner noted the recognition was especially significant due to the cabinet's efforts during the COVID-19 crisis.
“We have so many faculty and staff members who exceed expectations--and that has been particularly true during the pandemic,” he said.
“From the early days of the pandemic to decisions and processes being implemented even now, my leadership team has been incredible. They have worked nights and weekends and have been on call, literally, 24 hours a day to review information, discuss options, and help make decisions that have governed virtually every aspect of what we have done here at MCC since the pandemic began,” Dr. Huebner said.
He added that the group had moved forward and embraced the College’s mission while
caring for others. “They have been the best example of a team I have ever been associated
with. Their service to our community is a true blessing to me and to MCC.”
