City, MCC partner to host job fair

A partnership among the City of Meridian, Meridian Community College, and Specialty Roll Products led to the Grassroots Mayor’s Job Fair, connecting residents with employment opportunities and a chance to build better futures.
The event was held at MCC’s Workforce Development Center; dozens of community members attended to meet employers, submit applications, and interview on-site for open positions.
“This is about meeting people where they are — giving hope, access, and real chances for advancement,” said Mayor Bland. “We believe every citizen deserves a chance to work and thrive right here in Meridian.”
Specialty Roll Products, a Meridian-based company and national leader in custom roll and label manufacturing, is expanding operations and hiring 25 full-time manufacturing employees.
Meridian Community College partnered with the City to provide space, staff, and support through its Workforce Development Center, helping connect job seekers with available positions.
MCC President Dr. Tom Huebner said the partnership demonstrates what can happen when local organizations work together. “Anytime we can create opportunities for people to get great employment and provide for their families, that’s a net positive,” he said. “When people get jobs, that helps them grow personally, and it elevates our entire community.”
Among the attendees were MCC student Lahondre “Dre” Chambliss and MCC alum Danny Dennard, both of Meridian. Chambliss, a second-year University Transfer student, said the event was helpful and encouraging. “I feel like it was a great opportunity to find a job, and I feel like MCC is really supportive of the community to help people look for things like that,” he said. Dennard agreed, adding that the job fair “was a great opportunity for people to apply. It’s going really smoothly — the way people are coming in and out.”
Mayor Bland said the event’s success reflects the strength of community partnerships. “A local business owner reached out to my team at the City of Meridian, and I had a partner — the president of a local college — who had the capacity and the vision to help put it together quickly,” he said. “This is the City and MCC partnering to help move our community forward.”
