MCC connects with job seekers at Governor’s Job Fair
Lashonda Clayton was one of more than 300 people who attended the Governor’s Job Fair searching new career opportunities.
“I’m looking for a career change,” she said. After 20 years of driving trucks, she’s ready for something different.
At the fair, Clayton met with Meridian Community College Workforce Project Manager Parker Manley to explore her options. MCC was one of 43 organizations and companies at the event, which is part of the Job Fair Network operated by the Mississippi Department of Employment Security. The program helps connect employers with job seekers.
Clayton has already taken a step toward her next career. She enrolled in MCC’s Continuing Education forklift class and is eager to join the College’s welding program.
MCC students also attended the event, said Shannon Coleman, WIOA case manager.
“I saw many of our industrial programs represented. The companies that support the fair are looking for our students,” she said.
