And the winner is…

MCC President Dr. Tom Huebner, left, accepts the canned food drive competition from Mississippi State University-Meridian Associate Vice President and Head of Campus Dr. Terry Dale Cruse. At the end of the Fall Semester of 2022, Meridian Community College and Mississippi State University-Meridian went head-to-head in a friendly canned food drive competition.

Both schools were determined to contribute the most cans and receive a trophy and bragging rights.

"MCC won by an overwhelming margin," said Ambrielle Adams, MCC lead coordinator for housing and student activities, who helped to oversee the canned food drive where more than 1,600 cans were collected and given to Hope Village for Children emergency shelter and to the MCC food pantry.

"This would not have been possible without their contributions," she added.

MCC and MSU Meridian presidents were happy to compete; the top contributor would get a trophy and bragging rights. The second-place winner's leader had to wear the other school's logo-branded shirts for a photo opp.

"The canned food drive is for a good cause, and I'm glad we can do this so we can make a difference in our community," said MCC President Dr. Tom Huebner as he accepted the trophy on behalf of the institution.

Both institutions work closely to make an impact on the community.

"With an event like this, even though we're having a good time with it, it's important to meet the needs of our community,” said Dr. Huebner.

Similarly, Dr. Terry Dale Cruise, associate vice president and head of campus at MSU-Meridian, expressed his contentment with partnering up for the contest.
