MCC has often been referred to as family
, and the phrase revealed its literal meaning because many faculty and staff members had family members who graduated from the College this month.

When asked what the best thing you learned at MCC, here are a few of the answers from some of the family:

Clay Shumate, son of Win Maxey-Shumate, Early Childhood Education Technology Program coordinator and instructor: “I learned a great deal in the art classes here at MCC; these classes showed me how to improve both my skills and competence. As a University Transfer art major, I learned how to use variations, symbolism and design when creating a piece of artwork.”

Timothy, Tatyana, and Margarette Cole

Tatyana Cole, daughter of Margarette Cole, Smart Start instructor, and Timothy Cole, Eagles Nest Bookstore inventory clerk: “I learned that hard work pays off on and off the field.” Her area of study: University Transfer Athletic Training.

Steven Adam Motes, son of LeAnne Motes, campus life coordinator: “The best thing I learned about here was the programs that we were taught. AutoCad is an indispensable tool with surveying and architecture. Revit simplified the process of constructing building plans. My personal favorite program we learned was Inventor, which is the software we use to design and model 3D parts and objects.” His area of study: 3D CAD Engineering Technology.

MCC President Dr. Thomas Huebner and Emily Huebner

Emily Huebner, daughter of MCC President Dr. Thomas Huebner: “The best thing I learned while at MCC was that becoming involved in different organizations leads to so many amazing opportunities and gives you the ability to meet tons of new people!” Her area of study: Music Performance.

Tyler and Lori Smith

Tyler Smith, son of Lori Smith, dean of workforce education: “I think my favorite thing I learned at MCC was how to study and my love for literature. MCC challenged me a lot when it came to taking tests. I couldn't just rely on my common knowledge to make it through. I actually had to rely on studying outside the classroom. Also, after taking multiple college level courses, I have come to realize that sciences and math are just not my thing, and that's good! I have learned a lot about myself in that I tend to be more successful with the creative arts, literature, and philosophy than any other category. I can definitely use this knowledge to find success in the future. His area of study: Communications.
