MCC encourages future nurses to apply ahead of Fall 2026 deadline
Meridian Community College encourages prospective nursing students to apply early
for its Associate Degree Nursing (ADN) and Practical Nursing (PN) programs, as applications
for the Fall 2026 semester are due Feb. 15.
MCC’s Associate Degree Nursing Program prepares students for entry-level registered nursing positions through a combination of classroom instruction, hands-on lab training, and clinical experience. The 73-credit-hour program leads to an Associate of Applied Science degree and eligibility to apply for the national licensure examination.
Students develop core nursing skills in campus laboratories before transitioning to direct patient care in hospitals and other clinical settings. To accommodate a variety of schedules, the program offers day, evening, and hybrid course options.
MCC’s Practical Nursing Program is a one-year certificate program designed to equip students with essential nursing skills needed to care for patients in affiliated clinical agencies. The program emphasizes both personal and intellectual development, preparing graduates to help meet the community’s health care needs.
Beyond coursework, MCC nursing faculty enhance learning by bringing real-world perspectives into the classroom through guest speakers. These sessions allow students to better understand the human side of health care and the role nurses play during some of life’s most challenging moments.
Recently, Associate Degree Nursing students heard from Jaclyn Bush of the Mississippi Organ Recovery Agency, who discussed grief and loss, organ donation, and the ways nurses support patients and families throughout the process.
Students also welcomed MCC alumnus Evan Edwards, who shared his experience as a patient following a spinal cord injury. Edwards spoke candidly about the importance of empathy, communication, and compassion in nursing care.
“Treat your patient like they matter,” Edwards told the class. “Listen to them and take time to care.”
