Meridian Community College hosts graduation, pinnings

It was a day of celebrations when Meridian Community College hosted its Fall Commencement in Meridian’s Temple Theater.

Before the 2 o’clock afternoon ceremony, two pinning events, an Associate Degree Nursing and Practical Nursing celebrations were held to commemorate the students’ next steps in their careers.

During Friday’s ceremony, five graduates, Miranda Anderson of Leakesville, Samantha Howell of Stonewall, Joy Kelley of Meridian, Karlee Sullivan of Collinsville, and Destiny Redmond of Pachuta, were saluted as the newest members of the College’s Circle of Excellence. These outstanding graduates were chosen based on scholarship, leadership, spirit, and service.

An Associate Degree Nursing Program graduate, Anderson is a licensed practical nurse, case management worker, and community liaison for the hospital where she works. She plans to continue working in nursing care in the emergency room setting in addition to case management.

Howell, a Business and Office Management Technology and Accounting graduate, initially wanted to work in human resources. She later found a job in construction and found her career passion; Howell plans to study construction management at Mississippi State University, emphasizing human resources.

Kelley is also an ADN graduate who plans to pursue her nursing education and later obtain a bachelor of science in nursing.

Currently working for the City of Meridian, Redmond wants to continue her water treatment career and plans to become licensed as a water operator by the end of 2024. She is a graduate in the Accounting Technology, Business and Office Management Technology, and Medical Office Management Programs.

Sullivan, a member of the Phil Hardin Foundation Honors College at Meridian Community College, is a University Transfer Program student majoring in criminology. She plans to attend the University of Southern Mississippi and later obtain a law degree, hoping to one day become a prosecutor.
