With more than 180 students as candidates for graduation, Meridian Community College will hold its fall commencement on Friday, Dec. 8, at 2 p.m. in the Temple Theater in Downtown Meridian.

Deanna Smith, MCC dean of student affairs, expressed her enthusiasm for the students’ accomplishments, acknowledging their hard work and determination to reach milestones. "These students have pushed through, and we're honored to give them their moment in the spotlight," she said.

During the ceremony, graduating students Destiny Redmond, Lauren Lewis, and Joy Kelley will offer the invocation, welcome, and benediction, respectively. Redmond is a Business Management Technology, Medical Office Technology, and Accounting Technology student; Lewis and Kelley are Associate Degree Nursing Program students. Along with awarding certificates and diplomas, College officials will recognize the newest members of the Circle of Excellence. This acknowledgment spotlights these students’ academic achievement, leadership qualities, community service, and dedication.

Before the commencement, MCC's Practical Nursing Program will hold a separate pinning ceremony at 9 a.m. to honor the nursing students and celebrate their journey to becoming nurses, and at 11 a.m., the College’s Associate Degree Nursing Program will host its pinning ceremony. Both pinnings will be held in the Temple Theater.
