Eagle Esports returns with tournament play

in the Eagle Esports competition.
MCC student Morgan Cumberland, a Graphic Design Technology sophomore, was a little nervous as she began the tournament but soon became confident.
“I won one vs. one. That’s pretty good,” Cumberland said as she took a break from participating in the Eagle Esports Club’s Super Smash Brothers Ultimate tournament.
Cumberland was one of nearly 20 participants in the campus organization's tournament held in the Quave Student Life Center.
Esports is a form of competitive sports using video game platforms where individuals or teams face off against each other in their game of choice. Esports can range across the video game spectrum from Madden NFL, to First Person Shooters like Call of Duty. E-Fighting is a subgenre of Esports focusing mainly on fighting games such as Super Smash Brothers, Tekken, Mortal Kombat, Street Fighter, and others.
The MCC’s Eagle Esports group has 14 members, with Dyson Williams serving as president. Williams, a Computer Networking Technology Program student, said this tournament was the first since the pandemic. “We’re trying to get back on our feet again,” he said.
Anthony D’Angelo, MCC Management Information Systems Instructor, serves as an advisor for the group, said the winners won a Nintendo eshop gift card valued at $35.
