Smith named VP of Mississippi Student Affairs Association

Deanna SmithMeridian Community College Dean of Students Deanna Smith has been named vice president of the Mississippi Student Affairs Association, an organization that is under the auspices of the Mississippi Community College Board. 

More than 50 Mississippi community college professionals are members of this organization that support student services throughout the state by coordinating resources and sharing best practices. 

"I'm excited to be vice president," Smith said, noting she previously held the office of secretary of the organization. "Last year, I served under Dr. Tonyalle Rush, associate vice president for student services and enrollment management at Northwest Community College. Dr. Rush is a great mentor for the program and revived the student affairs association," Smith said. 

Smith, an alumna of MCC, has worked at the College for 14 years as a student recruiter and director of advising and retention before assuming the dean position in the fall of 2018. She holds a bachelor of business administration and a master of arts in teaching from Mississippi State University.
