Dawn Wright: Encourager, MCCer of the Month for May

Dawn Wright“She just needed a cheerleader.”

That’s what Dawn Wright, Meridian Community College psychology instructor, said about a student who enrolled in one of Wright’s classes. The student posted excellent grades and displayed a top-notch personality to match but was unsure of herself. “I received a handwritten note from a student who told me that she didn’t believe in herself until she came to my class.”

Wright counts this memory as one of her proudest moments at MCC. “There is no amount of money that can reward you when you get to see this type of growth in a student.”

Others notice Wright’s work with students and faculty and staff; she was named MCCer of the Month for May. The MCC Foundation bestows this honor, and it spotlights outstanding faculty and staff members for the work they do for the College. The award comes with a $250 stipend.

“My favorite part of this job,” Wright said, “is sharing my passion for psychology with students and helping them to maximize their fullest potential by applying what they have learned in everyday life.”

This drive to share is motivated by Wright’s willingness to serve. “Service to God is service to others,” she said, adding that psychology is a great tool to help others understand themselves and those around them.
