Powerful stories and impactful statistics. Complimentary meals and branded merchandise. MCC's Convocation ’23 brought faculty and staff back to campus after summer break providing a chance to reunite and prepare for Fall Semester 2023, which begins today, Monday, Aug. 14.

Convocation also underlined the vital role of the community college. Keynote speaker Sean Dietrich, an author, columnist, and novelist also known as Sean of the South, shared his story of how his community college education was transformative, starting with the defining moment when an instructor declared he was a true writer. Community college instills hope, he said.

MCC President Dr. Tom Huebner shared with the McCain Theater audience: "You have to believe in the power of what we're doing here at Meridian Community College to transform the individuals and families of the individuals sitting here in our classes. I know that sounds inspirational, and it's not always easy. It reminds me of the importance of words and what we do and how we do it here at Meridian Community College,” he said.

Also, during the one-day event, members of the President's Cabinet shared updates on their respective areas, including introductions of new faculty and staff members, the announcement of a sizable gift to the food pantry and grant funding received from Accelerate MS through the Department of Defense, and name changes for departments and areas.
