Transfer Fair offers networking opportunity

What's the next academic step for Meridian Community College students? Thanks to MCC's Transfer Fair, students learned first-hand about the opportunities offered by various higher education institutions.

Meridian freshman Brittani Houston was one of the students who stopped by MCC's Transfer Fair, where college representatives answered questions and offered college-branded giveaways.

"I wanted to get more information about how to further my education," said Houston, who is interested in transferring to a senior institution to study in the healthcare field after she completes her studies at MCC.

Candy Adams, academic advisor at Mississippi State University Meridian, was one of the higher education personnel attending the event. "We want students to have informed decisions about where they transfer to after Meridian Community College," she said, as to why the university participates in the fair.

"These events are beneficial because they connect us with those students that otherwise we may not be able to reach out to," Adams added. "Also, they get that face-to-face interaction with an admission counselor."

MCC offers this fair to support students' academic and career aspirations. "Hosting this event allows our students to learn about their transfer options. It offers guidance on programs, financial aid, and the transfer process, helping them plan their next steps," said Shaquita Alfonso, associate director of military and veterans services.

Another transfer fair is planned for Spring Semester 2025.
