College for Kids returns to MCC with summer fun

They’re coming – more than 500 kids, that is.

Meridian Community College’s College for Kids will again host youths ages 6-12 on campus to learn, have fun, and create memories for an out-of-this-world experience. This summer event is June 1-5 and 8-12.

This annual learning-and-doing camp offers a fun and educational experience in a safe and supportive environment. With classes ranging from pony riding to slime making to rocket blasting, College for Kids has something for every curious mind.

“Each year, hundreds of young learners come to campus to explore hands-on classes in art, science, sports, technology, cooking, and more,” said Ashlee Dean, College for Kids program coordinator and Recruiting Coordinator for Student Engagement.

Popular classes such as All About Animals, Pottery Pals, and Wacky Sports will return, and there are new interactive classes available. Cartooning and Comic Creations, Cheer Dance, and Tumble, Line Dance Party, Chess, Fashion Designers, Little Gardeners, Galaxy of Acceptance, and Makeup Magic are just a few in which youngsters can experience a whole new world.

There are two classes each day, each starting at 8:30 and 10:30 a.m. Classes are $75 each.

Dean said College officials consider the feedback received when choosing classes for the year. “We truly look at what's trending and what the students would love,” she noted.

Last year, more than 540 students participated in College for Kids, Dean said.
