Arts & Letters Series rings in season with Christmas concert


Students and faculty entertain 2022 Christmas concert audience. This year’s holiday concert is Thursday, Nov. 30, at 7 p.m. in the McCain Theater.
 

The holiday spirit is in full swing as Meridian Community College prepares to entertain the campus and community with its annual Arts & Letters Series Christmas concert on Thursday, Nov. 30, at 7 p.m. in the McCain Theater in Ivy-Scaggs Hall. 

The MCC Arts & Letters Series Christmas concert has become a tradition on campus and in the local community, offering a blend of classic and contemporary holiday tunes. “We consider this our gift to the community, and it is our joy to present our talented students as they perform their music,” said Tammy Miles, MCC director of choral music and music instructor. 

This year's event will feature various musical genres, from timeless Christmas carols to contemporary holiday hits. The program will showcase the talents of MCC's music department, including members of the MCC Guitar Ensemble, the MCC Concert Choir, and the MCC Dimensions, presenting an evening of unforgettable performances. 

There will also be a carol sing-along where the audience is encouraged to lend their voices to the classic tunes for all to hear. 

Members of the MCC Guitar Ensemble include Holley Gillies, Clinton Groves, Carpenter Hill, Justin Hopkins, Trevor McGlothlin, Jazlyn Martin, Jesse Mixon, and Meadow Smith. Mitch Brantley, the fine arts division chair, is the ensemble's director. 

MCC Concert Choir members are Michaela Acord, Isabel Susanaga, Payton Alexander, DeVayne Kight, Chloe Smith, Taniyah Thedford, and Jolee Todd, soprano; Anna Grayson, Taylor Ashford, Jakelya Brown, Atoria Crowell, Mary Pean, Raven Satcher, Libby Smith, and Jozlyn Spears, alto; Gavin Broome, Kamron Darden, Noah Stephens, and Connor Todd, tenor; and Hasen Caldwell, Noah Garner, Christian McClelland, and Jesse Mixon, bass. Miles and Twyla Hurst are directors and accompanists. 

The MCC Dimensions, under Miles’ direction, includes Anna Grayson, Atoria Crowell, Christian McClelland, Connor Todd, Hasen Caldwell, Jakelya Brown, Jesse Mixon, Jolee Todd, Kamron Darden, Michaela Acord, Noah Stephens, and Payton Alexander. 

Daniel Boles is the music arranger and musician. 

Admission to the event is free, making it accessible to all members of the community.
