Opening reception for Alabama Art Casting Exhibit set Nov. 11 at MCC’s Casteel Gallery

Meridian Community College’s Casteel Gallery will host an opening reception of Alabama Art Casting: Group Show and Happenings on Monday, Nov. 11, from 3-5:30 p.m.

The exhibit, running from Nov. 11 through Jan. 30, spotlights the work of Alabama Art Casting, a nonprofit dedicated to engaging audiences with metal casting techniques and the artistry of iron pouring.

Founded in 1998, Alabama Art Casting hosts interactive programs, offering hands-on workshops that cover the metal casting process steps, from preparing raw materials and creating molds to operating furnaces. The organization brings these experiences to life with mobile iron-pouring demonstrations at notable locations such as Tannehill Ironworks Historic State Park and Red Top Mountain State Park in Alabama. Chess pieces by Clifford McPeek

The exhibit will remain on display in the Casteel Gallery in the Davidson Fine Arts Center in Ivy-Scaggs Hall until Jan. 30. A closing reception is planned for the same day, from 3-5:30 p.m.

Gallery hours are Monday through Thursday, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., and Friday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Admission to the Casteel Gallery is free of charge.
