Helping others motivates giving at blood drive

“I try to do this anytime I can. You never know who will need it.”

MCC student Brooklyn Mowdy, left, relaxes as Feren Foster, Mississippi Blood Services donor technician II, begins the donation procedure. MCC hosted a two-day blood drive on campus.

That was one of the reasons why Anna Burns Clay donated blood. The Meridian Community College recruiting coordinator was one of many campus and community folks who rolled up their sleeves to help others when the College’s Campus Life hosted the two-day event with Mississippi Blood Services.

For Dental Assistant student Brooklyn Mowdy, donating blood is one way to help others; the 19-year-old Hickory native has given blood previously. Statistics show one unit of blood can save four lives.

Another donor from the first day of giving was Christopher Williams, 19, from Meridian, and it was the first time he had donated, though he was somewhat apprehensive of needles. In addition to helping others, Williams was eager to discover his blood type.

MCC will host its next blood drive during the Fall Semester of 2024.
