MCC top scholars saluted during awards ceremonies

MCC sophomore Katherine Hayes received the Ivy Outstanding Student Award from MCC President Dr. Tom Huebner.

Outstanding Meridian Community College students’ academic and athletic achievements shone as they were spotlighted in the College’s annual Awards Program.   

Two ceremonies were held this year: University Transfer Awards Night was on Monday, April 28. The second, Career and Technical Awards Night, was held on Tuesday, April 29.   

During the University Transfer Awards Night ceremony, MCC sophomore Katherine Hayes received the Ivy Outstanding Student Award. This award is given to the most outstanding graduating sophomore active on campus who has positively impacted the school and the surrounding area. Hayes, who plans to pursue a career in chemical engineering, is a native of Columbus. While at MCC, she has been a member of the Lady Eagles Soccer Team and a Nu Upsilon chapter officer of Phi Theta Kappa, the international academic honor society.  

Also receiving accolades were MCC Foundation award winners, including Chole Smith, the Royalty Education Scholarship; Alondra Arreola-Espino, Lucile Reisman Rosenbaum Memorial Scholarship; and Bruce McClung, Robert F. Cochran Memorial Scholarship. Alexa Shirley received the Wilton (Bill) Johnson Memorial Scholarship.

During the Career and Technical Awards Night ceremony, Kiersten White, New Century Workforce Pathway Scholar, First Team, and Workforce Pathway Scholar First Team; Hannah Buchanan, Workforce Pathway Scholar, Second Team, were spotlighted.
