MCC Arts & Letters invites audiences on magical journey with Roald Dahl’s Willy Wonka JR.
From Oompa-Loompas to a golden ticket, Meridian Community College’s Arts & Letters Series production, Roald Dahl’s Willy Wonka JR., offers audiences a sweet chance to return to childhood dreams.
The Arts & Letters Series’ companies, Take One and Stage Two, are presenting this musical on Feb. 8 and 9 in the McCain Theater in Ivy-Scaggs Hall. The curtain is at 3 p.m. for each performance.
The musical is based on the classic story of a famous candy maker searching for the perfect heir.
Willy Wonka hides golden tickets inside five candy bars, and whoever finds them wins a tour of his magical chocolate factory and a lifetime supply of sweets. Four winners are spoiled and selfish, but the fifth, Charlie Bucket, is a kind-hearted boy who brings his grandfather along for the adventure. As they explore the factory, the children must follow Wonka’s rules — or face the consequences.
This show features songs from the 1971 movie, plus new music that brings the story to life on stage.
Daylon Horton portrays Willy Wonka, Cannon Windham plays Charlie Bucket, and Davis Reed plays Grandpa Joe in this Arts & Letters Series production.
Susie Johnson, director of the Arts & Letters Series, serves as the director of Roald Dahl’s Willy Wonka JR.
