MCC alumna Janet Berg credits College for career support

Raised by her family to value education, Meridian Community College alumna Janet Berg credits MCC for giving her career a firm foundation.

Berg is a graduate of MCC’s Graphic Design Technology, Class of 1999, and the skills she garnered with her associate of applied science degree go hand-in-hand with her career. “My current role has provided an opportunity to expand on my graphic design skills as well as learn videography as I record and design online learning modules to support training efforts of the bank,” she said.

As the Learning Development Specialist at Citizens National Bank for nearly three years, Berg helps plan and create new hire training and ongoing training for current employees. She also facilitates orientation and assists with onboarding the bank’s new employees.

For as long as she can remember, Berg enjoyed creating. “When I learned about graphic design in high school, I was drawn to it as a career. It was a great way to earn a living while having a regular creative outlet. It’s been so fulfilling to help others express their message visually and to see my work used by others throughout my career,” she said.

Her MCC education has served her in good stead by developing and channeling that creative process. “A college degree can lay a great foundation that provides opportunities you might not otherwise have,” Berg noted. “Over the years, I’ve added to that education through on-the-job, in-person, or online learning opportunities tailored to my specific needs at that point in my career,” she said.

“MCC specifically offers wonderful learning opportunities right here in our community that are affordable,” she said, noting the people she met while studying in the College’s program continue their friendship today.

She and her husband have three children. “I’ve encouraged each of my kids to consider MCC as an option in their future education,” she added.
