MCC’s dual enrollment offered Palmer jumpstart on career

Meridian Community College alum Ashlyn Palmer got a jump start on her career early while still a teen.

“After taking dual enrollment classes during my senior year of high school, I knew I wanted to complete my associate degree at MCC while exploring my academic interests before committing to a specific major at a university,” said this MCC alumna (Class of 2009).

Today, Palmer is employed by Ochsner Rush Health as the Director of Regional Business Operations and Planning, where she’s responsible for strategic program management, corporate communications, project management, and strategic plan development.

As a college student with her sights set on a versatile degree, Palmer pursued business administration and credited MCC and subsequent studies at the University of Southern Mississippi for laying a solid foundation in business principles, management, finance, and marketing. She holds an associate of arts degree and a bachelor of science in business administration. She has earned the Strategic Planning in Healthcare Certification from the Society for Health Care Strategy & Market Development.

MCC holds special memories for Palmer; it’s where she met her husband, Justin. “I was on the cheerleading squad at MCC and loved being on the sideline of the basketball games,” she recalled. The Palmers have two sons, Falon and Creed.

What advice would she give to others considering MCC? “Lauderdale County students are extremely fortunate to have the opportunity to attend four semesters at MCC with the Tuition Guarantee Program. Every local student should take advantage of that opportunity,” she said.

Palmer added, “Working in healthcare, I am especially thankful for MCC’s partnership with Ochsner Rush Health in educating future healthcare professionals and shaping the healthcare landscape in our community.”
