MCC nursing students explore career paths at College job fair

Addison Evans, a 22-year-old fourth-semester Associate Degree Nursing student from Collinsville, came to Meridian Community College’s Nursing Job Fair to expand her career opportunities.
“I want to see what’s out there and learn more about where I can take my nursing career,”
Evans said after she stopped at tables manned by recruiters from across the region.
The event brought 28 recruiters representing hospitals, clinics, long-term care facilities, and other health care institutions to MCC’s campus. In addition to job opportunities for MCC’s Practical Nursing, Associate Degree Nursing, and Health Care Assistant students, several university representatives were on hand to discuss pathways for further education.
Among the vendors was Kim Smith, BSN Program coordinator for the University of Southern Mississippi in Hattiesburg. “Mississippi needs more nurses,” Smith said. “We wanted to be here today to recruit future nurses and encourage them to keep going. If they have a goal, we can help meet it in nursing.”
The majority of students attending the fair were Associate Degree Nursing and Practical Nursing students, but all MCC nursing students were welcome. Some 270 participants attended the fall event, which is held twice a year.
MCC’s nursing programs host the job fair each fall and spring to connect students with career opportunities and educational resources. The college’s goal is to support graduates as they enter the workforce and to promote continued learning in the nursing profession.
