MCCer of the Month: Brandy Hill

Joining in the announcement celebration are Brandy Hill, left, Dr. Leia Hill, Courtney Pitts, and Theresa Hogan.

"Knowing that the work we do makes a difference in the lives of so many people is very rewarding."

That's how Meridian Community College Foundation Accountant Brandy Hill sees the mission of her work. Hill remembered the day a tearful student came to the Foundation office needing funds to complete her education. "It was at the end of her final semester, and she hadn't been able to work as much on the side as she had anticipated. She had a bill that she could not pay, and that was all that stood between her and her diploma she had worked so hard for," Hill explained.

"Luckily, we had a scholarship available and could pay the remainder of her bill. I'm sure our scholarships have the same effect on many students, but I don't always get to see it firsthand," Hill said.

Being helpful and having a solid work ethic are just a few reasons Hill was selected as MCCer of the Month for April. The MCC Foundation sponsors this monthly award to exemplify the College's hardworking employees who go above and beyond their daily duties. Honorees are peer-nominated. In addition to a commemorative plaque, honorees are given $250.

Hill, who has always had a penchant for numbers, earned a bachelor's degree in accounting from Mississippi State University-Meridian and a Master of Business Administration from Delta State University. The Livingston, Alabama, native worked with a Meridian-based private firm and garnered nine years of accounting experience in the higher education and nonprofit arenas before coming to MCC in April 2021.

She takes pride in her work, following the adage that anything worth doing is worth doing right. "My parents instilled a strong work ethic in me at a young age. They taught me that nothing in life is just handed to you and that you must work hard to get what you want," Hill said.

Working with like-minded colleagues is a bonus to her; it's her fellow co-workers that Hill likes best about MCC. "I've witnessed people throughout the College face hard times, and the MCC family came together just as a family should and provided support in every way they could," she said.

Hill's supervisor, Dr. Leia Hill, vice president for Institutional Advancement and executive director of the MCC Foundation, expressed her admiration and pride for Hill's recent recognition, stating, "Brandy's dedication to excellence and her attention to detail has been instrumental in strengthening the MCC Foundation in recent years. Her work ethic, integrity, and commitment to exceeding expectations truly set her apart. We are incredibly fortunate to have such a passionate and skilled professional on our team."

"It's always affirming to have your team's efforts recognized and valued by the peers within the workplace. Such acknowledgment underscores the significance of our work and reinforces our sense of belonging and purpose within our community," Dr. Hill added.

Another college colleague wrote in a nomination, “Brandy is always ready to do whatever is needed to reach students and the community for the College. She is always professional and does a wonderful job.”

The newly named MCCer of the Month recipient shared, "The administration does a great job of setting high expectations for the quality of work they expect while also operating with a family-first mentality."

Hill and her husband, Tooney, live in Scooba with their nine-month-old son, Memphis.
