Whiting offers advice, encouragement for students during LEAD session

Using the theme, “Lead Where You Are – Grow Where You Are Planted,” Meridian Community College staffer Marion Whiting encouraged students to get involved in campus and leadership opportunities.
Whiting’s talk was the 2025-25 academic term’s first Leadership Effectiveness and Development (LEAD) session. Held monthly and open to all, LEAD helps students grow as leaders by providing opportunities to learn from experienced professionals.
She shared her experiences as an undergraduate student at college. “I think when you can find the areas that you’re more passionate about and give your all into those areas, you’ll see a lot more growth in yourself and for those communities as well,” Whiting said.
“Becoming a committed part of our student activities, I found a calling for my career that I never even thought about before,” she said. “So, you just never know how getting involved in different areas on or off campus will affect your life.”
She added, “I encourage you to branch out, talk to people.” Other advice she offered: “Find a mentor, lead where you are and grow where you are planted.”
The next LEAD session is Oct. 22 at 1 p.m. in the Quave Center.
