MCC, LCSD partner for FlexFactor: Students pitch tech solutions
Clarkdale High School students flexed their mental muscles when they worked together on a semester-long FlexFactor project and presented it via “Shark Tank” style.
The program, a collaborative effort between Meridian Community College and Lauderdale County School District, saw students from grades 9-12 develop and pitch technology-based solutions to real-world problems. According to Lucy Lamberth, MCC director of workforce grants and development, the projects included cutting-edge concepts like sensory eyeglasses and a drone designed for water filtration in remote areas.
FlexFactor is a project-based STEM learning program that allows students to create fresh ideas, figure out how to market and develop them, and combine all of their learned skills. It is funded by Accelerate Mississippi, a government agency that is the state’s leading office for workforce development.
The students presented their projects in front of a three-person panel in the style of the TV show “Shark Tank.”
