ELC members learn leadership skills

Kassi RushingThere's a saying that leaders are not born, they’re made.

That's what Kassi Rushing, a communications and people strategist, conveyed as she led the discussion on Behaviors of Inclusive Leadership and Growing an Engaged Team in the Meridian Community College Eagle Leadership Convocation (ELC) Class.

Rushing, an alliance member at Blue Hen, a company dedicated to organizational health and workplace development, is also a strategic partner and designated Thought Leader with the AICPA-CIMA's Business Learning Institute.

"We talk about growing leaders, specifically inclusive teams. It's a skill set required to get the most out of your people, but it's not a skill set everybody is born with," she said.

Her ideas and suggestions hit the mark. "I enjoyed learning about how to be more inclusive and what I need to work on personally," said ELC member Cyndy Bratu, administrative assistant.

"I think everybody can be a leader somehow,” she added.

ELC is an academic year-long professional development and leadership program comprising 10 MCC faculty and staff members: Tony Boutwell, Mitch Brantley, Cyndy Bratu, An Howard Hill, Brandy Hill, Mandy Hurtt, Victoria Liddell, Whitney Stevens, Marlo Turner, and Kristi Williamson.

The next ELC session is on March 7. Dr. Kim Ennis will speak on Crisis and Meeting Management.
