MCC Diesel Mechanic Technology students receive tools of the trade

It could be called an early Christmas.
Meridian Community College Diesel Mechanic Technology students picked up, unloaded, cataloged, and assembled news tools of their trade during a recent class session. Each received about $1,500 worth of equipment to use in class and later on the job.
The wrenches, sockets and power tools will help them learn to repair and maintain heavy-duty machines.
“These tools are foundational,” said Program Coordinator Michael Acord. “From class to on the job, these tools they’ll be using to inspect, repair and maintain equipment.”
The Diesel Mechanic Technology Program is a one-year, two-semester certificate program that trains students to work on agricultural tractors, commercial trucks and construction equipment. The curriculum includes engine repair, powertrains, hydraulic systems and inspections. The program follows national certification standards so graduates are ready to step into the workforce.
Skilled diesel mechanics are in high demand across Mississippi and beyond, Acord said. “This program doesn’t just teach skills,” he said. “It creates opportunities. Our graduates are stepping into stable, well-paying jobs that keep transportation, agriculture and construction moving.”
