Meet: Danielle Burnett

Meridian resident Danielle Burnett, 22, is making her mark at Meridian Community College by pursuing her passion for helping children become all they can.

Enrolled in the College’s Early Childhood Education Program, Burnett explained her career choice: “I want to be able to show them they can be anything, they can do anything, and that they’re capable of doing anything they want in life when they get older,” she said.

"MCC offers not only a diverse curriculum but also offers a welcoming and helping environment," said the first-generation college student. “Everyone here is nice, caring, and supportive. I can be open with everyone,” Burnett added.

Though some students opt for online classes, Burnett prefers the traditional classroom setting, explaining she’s more of a visual learner. She’s enrolled in 15 hours for the Spring Semester of 2024, and her dedication to her studies has earned her a place on the Dean’s List for the previous term.

Burnett plans to graduate in May, work at the Naval Air Station Meridian Child Development Center, and gain experience before becoming an elementary school teacher. “I want to return and go to Mississippi State University-Meridian,” she said.

Outside of her studies, Burnett enjoys painting nails, walking, spending time with family, practicing yoga (she’s enrolled this semester in the college’s yoga class), and dreaming of beach days. Although born at Biloxi’s Keesler Air Force Base (her dad was in the military), Burnett opted for a different path than a military career.
