Giving back
Thanks to the pandemic, many things in life have been canceled or re-arranged. The need for blood though, has remained a constant.
According to the U.S. Surgeon General Dr. Jerome Adams, there is a concern about the potential blood shortages in the future. “Social distancing does not have to mean social disengagement,” he noted.
When Meridian Community College’s Campus Life hosted its blood drive, MCCers – students, faculty and staff – answered the call to help others in need of blood now and in the future. “MCC has a proud tradition of giving back to the community in many ways. The blood drive is just one way to help ensure our community has everything it needs,” said Leanne Motes, campus life coordinator.
Motes added it’s especially important that the College give in this time of COVID-19 and with hurricane season. “The community has helped us so much, we need to help the community,” Motes added.
Nearly 30 individuals participated in the blood drive on the first day of the two-day event held at Graham Gymnasium. Mississippi Blood Services was the provider.
