Volunteers

My College Cares

My College Cares is a one-day event where we close the college and cancel classes so that you can go into our community and volunteer! This is done through a sign-up process and supervised by MCC faculty and staff. If you successfully participate in My College Cares day and submit all assignments in the Self-Affirmation Course in Canvas, you will earn one FREE college credit hour.

A few things to note...

  • You will receive instructions on how to self-enroll in the Self-Affirmation Course on Canvas when you sign up.

  • There are very simple assignments and quizzes that have deadlines you need to familiarize yourself with.

  • As long as you are a full-time student (15 hours) you will not be charged for this class.

  • If you choose not to earn the credit, simply do nothing and the course will disappear at the end of the semester.

  • Many clubs or MCC teams will be working together on predetermined volunteer sites. Please contact your coach, teacher or advisor to ask if your group falls into the predetermined category BEFORE you sign up as a volunteer at site.

FAQ's...

Participation is not required, but the College encourages all students, faculty, and staff to participate by signing up for a location and completing the assignments on Canvas by the deadlines. Some instructors may have a requirement to participate or may be offering some incentive. Check with your all of your instructors.

You will receive instructions on how to self-enroll in Canvas once you have signed up as a volunteer for My College Cares.

Do not self-enroll in the class on Canvas.

No tuition is charged for the course if you are a full-time student enrolled in at least 15 hours. If you are a part-time student, please do not sign up for the credit-hour unless you want to pay for it. You can still volunteer and not receive the credit.

Yes! This credit-hour you earn from My College Cares is eligible for transfer to other colleges/universities. Please verify with your future college/university if you have questions.

Yes, you may earn the credit up to two (2) times. You can only take the class (and earn the credit) if you are already a full-time student. If you do not want to take the class, you may still volunteer for My College Cares, but DO NOT self-enroll in the class.

You will have an MCC employee as a Team Captain who will reach out to you with the details of your volunteer location.
