Volunteer for My College Cares
My College Cares will be held on Tuesday, October 6, 2026.
Students and employees are invited to spend My College Cares serving organizations throughout our community. Volunteer projects may include painting, cleaning, outdoor work, organizing supplies, assisting community organizations, and other projects based on local needs.
What to Expect
Before October 6, your Team Captain will contact you with information about your assigned project.
You should receive:
- The address and exact meeting location for your project
- Your arrival and service times
- Information about the work your group will be completing
- Instructions about appropriate clothing
- Information about anything you may need to bring
Volunteers should wear an MCC T-shirt if possible and have their MCC ID badge visible. Clothing should also be appropriate for the type of service being completed.
How To Earn One free College Credit Hour
My College Cares gives eligible students the opportunity to combine community service with a one-credit-hour Self-Affirmation Course.
The credit hour is optional. You may volunteer without enrolling in the course.
To earn the credit, students must:
- Sign up as a My College Cares volunteer
- Participate in the October 6 service event
- Self-enroll in the Self-Affirmation Course in Canvas
- Complete all required assignments and quizzes by the posted deadlines
Instructions for self-enrolling in the Canvas course will be provided after you sign up to volunteer.
Frequently Asked Questions
Participation is not required, but the College encourages all students, faculty, and staff to participate by signing up for a location and completing the assignments on Canvas by the deadlines.
Please note that some instructors may have a requirement to participate or may be offering some incentive. Check with your all of your instructors.
Yes. Tuition is not charged for the course if you are a full-time student enrolled in at least 15 hours.
If you are a part-time student, please do not sign up for the credit-hour unless you want to pay for it. You can still volunteer and not receive the credit.
Yes, however transfer and applicability of credit are determined by the receiving college or university. Students planning to transfer should check with their future institution to determine how the credit may apply to their program.
Yes. Eligible students may earn the My College Cares credit up to two times.
If you do not want to earn the free credit hour, you may still volunteer for My College Cares, but DO NOT self-enroll in the class.
Your Team Captain will contact you before the event with your project location, arrival time, and other instructions.

Note: Some MCC athletic teams, clubs, departments, and organizations may already have a service project arranged. Check with your coach, instructor, advisor, supervisor, or group leader before selecting an individual volunteer site.
