Become a Team Captain
MCC employees may volunteer to serve as Team Captains during My College Cares. Team Captains help lead a group of volunteers at a community project site and serve as the primary contact between MCC, the community partner, and assigned volunteers.
Team Captain Responsibilities
Team Captains make sure their community partner and assigned volunteers have the information they need before the event and help everything run smoothly on October 6.
Contact your project site and verify final details
- Confirm the exact meeting location.
- Confirm what time volunteers should arrive.
- Verify the service project or work requested.
- Verify the number of volunteers needed.
- Ask about any clothing, supplies, or special instructions.
Contact the volunteers that have signed up for your location
Provide your volunteers with:
- The GPS address and exact meeting location
- Arrival time
- A brief description of the service project
- Appropriate clothing recommendations
- Anything they need to bring
Take attendance and collect waivers the morning of the event
- Take attendance for all assigned volunteers.
- Have participating students sign in.
- Have students complete any required waivers.
- Make sure volunteers receive any necessary instructions from the community partner.
- Serve as the MCC point of contact for the group throughout the project.
- Return completed attendance sheets and signed waivers to Ellie Winter Williams in the Quave Student Life Center on October 7, 2026.
- Volunteers should wear an MCC T-shirt when possible and have their MCC ID badge visible. Clothing should also be appropriate for the type of service being completed. The Eagle's Nest Bookstore will offer a 10% discount to volunteers who need to purchase an MCC shirt.
- Eligible students who participate in My College Cares and complete the required Self-Affirmation Course activities in Canvas can earn one college credit hour. Accurate attendance records are important because participation in the service event is part of the course requirement.
Become a Team Captain
Ready to lead a My College Cares volunteer team? Complete the Team Captain sign-up below.
If your department plans to serve as a group, designate one employee to serve as the Team Captain. That employee should complete the Team Captain sign-up. All other participating employees in the department should sign up as volunteers.
