Course Schedule

We use Canvas as our Learning Management System (LMS). All online courses are housed in Canvas, including content, assignments, quizzes/exams. Students can access Canvas via EagleNet or directly at meridiancc.instructure.com.

Canvas Tutorials:

Cengage Unlimited gives students access to eBooks and online learning platforms needed for classes.

A computer with a reliable internet connection is recommended. A high-speed connection such as cable modem or DSL is preferable, especially for accessing content such as tutorials and audio/video lectures.

Many courses offer materials using Microsoft Word and PowerPoint, so it is also preferable to have Microsoft Office installed to your computer. Microsoft Office 365 is FREE for all MCC students and can be accessed on EagleNet.

Several courses at Meridian Community College offer textbooks in an electronic format (eBook). For each course where an eBook is provided, the student will be charged a fee for the textbook and will have access to the textbook on the day the course begins. The eBook refund policy will follow the refund policy for tuition and fees approved by the Board of Trustees.

Why is MCC offering eBooks?

  • Provides lower cost textbooks for students.

  • Allows students the ability to download their eBook.

  • Makes textbooks accessible to the student on the first day of class (No more waiting on financial aid to buy textbooks).

  • Introduces a format and technology that will likely be used at universities and in the work place.

What is needed in order to access my eBook?

  • Students must use a compatible personal ele ctronic device of some type (desktop computer, laptop computer, tablet, etc.) to access the eBook. Computers in campus computer labs and library may be used to access online eBooks.

  • For intense study sessions, RedShelf recommends laptops and desktops. These devices allow for the best highlighting and note-taking experience.

  • RedShelf recommends using the latest version of modern browsers (Chrome, Safari, Firefox, Edge) available on your device to avoid usability errors related to browser configurations. Internet Explorer is no longer supported by Microsoft and is not recommended. If you are working on hardware that doesn't allow installations of Chrome, try Chrome Portable / Chromium, which allows installation on a USB stick.

  • Instructions will be provided on how to access your eBook on the first day of class.

  • Each student must have their own eBook in order to complete homework assignments and tests from supplemental materials linked to the student’s eBook access information.

What will MCC provide?

  • MCC will provide the infrastructure (wireless internet) for students to use eBooks on campus.

  • MCC will provide assistance to students in the utilization of the wireless internet network.

  • MCC will provide support through the RedShelf website.

What MCC will NOT provide:

  • MCC will not provide maintenance or repair to students’ personal devices.

  • MCC will not resolve disputes concerning access to materials between the student and the publisher.

  • MCC will not be responsible for lost or stolen personal devices.

Will I still be able to get a regular book for my class?

  • The fee for the use eBooks is added to your account upon registration. There will be a limited number of printed textbooks in the bookstore at an additional cost.

What happens if I drop my eBook class?

  • The eBook fee is non-refundable and cannot be applied to enrollment in the same course in the future if the course is dropped after the refund period. Check the Refund Policy/Withdrawal Procedures for more information.

Who do I contact for questions or assistance with eBooks?

All online courses are required to have at least one proctored exam. A list of all testing sites, lab hours, and contact information can be found on your Canvas site by clicking on “Proctoring” on the left-hand navigation menu in each course. It is the student’s responsibility to make arrangements to come to a testing center for proctored exams.

Meridian Community College provides distance education programs and coursework to out-of-state students under the authority of an agreement with the Mississippi Commission on College Accreditation (MCCA). Mississippi, through its membership in the regional compact Southern Regional Education Board (SREB), has joined the National Council for State Authorization Reciprocity Agreements (SARA). SARA provides a reciprocity agreement that allows each member state the right to provide online education to residents of other member states without additional authorization required. All states are not currently members of SARA.

If you are a Meridian Community College (MCC) student or prospective student who will not reside in Mississippi while enrolled in MCC online programs or courses, please be aware that many states have prescribed an authorization process for out-of-state institutions delivering online programs to its state residents. Through such processes, states strive to ensure quality postsecondary education, to preserve the integrity of an academic degree and to instill greater consumer protection for its student citizens.

Meridian Community College's participation in NC-SARA allows students from NC-SARA approved states to enroll in MCC's online programs or courses. It is intended to make it easier for students to take online courses offered by postsecondary institutions based in another state. If the state you reside in is not indicated as a NC-SARA state, please contact elearning@meridiancc.edu for updated information and the current status of your state as well as programs and courses available for enrollment.

Colleges or universities in a SARA state only need their home state authorization to offer online education to any other SARA member state. Not every state has joined SARA, but most have. A current list of participating states can be found.

Accreditation
Meridian Community College is accredited by SACSCOC to award the Associate in Arts and the Associate of Applied Science Degrees. Contact the Commission on Colleges at 1866 Southern Lane, Decatur, Georgia 30033-4097 or call 404.679.4500 for questions about the accreditation of Meridian Community College.

MCC holds membership in the American Association of Community Colleges, the Mississippi Community and Junior College Association, the Mississippi Association of Colleges and the Southern Association of Community and Junior Colleges. Additionally, MCC is officially recognized by various occupational accrediting agencies, such as the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN), 3343 Peachtree Road NE, Suite 850, Atlanta, GA 30326; Phone 404.975.5000.

Out-of-State/Distance Student Complaint Procedure
Meridian Community College provides procedures for students to resolve complaints or grievances with the College; a copy of the student complaint procedure can be found in the MCC Academic Catalog under the Rights, Responsibilities, & Policies section. If your complaint is not resolved at the institutional level by filing a complaint pursuant to the student grievance policy, the College recognizes and accepts Mississippi Commission on College Accreditation (MCCA) oversight in resolving complaints from students taking distance education under the auspices of the State Authorization Reciprocity Agreement (SARA). Out-of-state students residing in NC-SARA (National Council for State Authorization Reciprocity Agreement) states may submit complaints to the MS-SARA portal agent. To file a complaint, a student should complete the complaint form available on the website. MCCA is located at 3825 Ridgewood Road, Jackson, MS 39211 and can be reached by telephone 601.432.6372.

Professional Licensure
States and other government entities have established standards of practice for the occupations or professions they have chosen to regulate, and they provide legal permission to practice those professions only to individuals who meet those standards. If you are considering an online program that leads to a professional license in your state, it is highly recommended that you first check with Meridian Community College to verify if the online program actually does meet the requirements of the state in which you intend to practice, as well seek guidance from the appropriate licensing agency in your home state before beginning the academic program located outside your state. Meridian Community College will notify students via email that the online program meets the requirements of the state in which the student notifies the College as their state of residence.

Students who wishes to make a complaint regarding any aspect of the MSVCC must take the following steps:

  • Discuss the problem with the faculty member, staff member, or administrator involved. Direct communication between the two parties usually resolves most of the problems.

  • If informal efforts to resolve the problem are not productive, the complainant should then contact the Chief eLearning Officer (CELO) at the student’s host college to help in processing the complaint. (Host college is the institution where the student registers for class.)

  • If the complainant, at this point, wishes to file a formal complaint, he or she should express the specific nature of the complaint and the remedy sought in writing to the providing college’s CELO with a copy sent to the host college’s CELO (if different).  The providing CELO will then refer it to the appropriate person for disposition. A response will be made to the complainant within 15 working days. (Providing college is the institution teaching the course.)

  • If the student is not satisfied with the resolution of the grievance, he/she must follow the procedures for appeal as prescribed by the student’s providing college. The appeal must be made in writing within five (5) working days of the previous decision.

  • Students who do not submit a written appeal by the appointed date forfeit any further consideration in this matter.

  • No adverse action will be taken against a student for filing a complaint.

You can also click on “SmarterProctoring” in the left-hand menu of your course to view a list of proctors nearest your location.

The only exceptions for not using an MSVCC testing center are the following:

  • Out-of-State students

  • A physical disability that prevents travel to an MSVCC site

Students meeting these exceptions will refer to the SmarterProctoring menu item within the Canvas course for a list of approved proctors.

It is the student's responsibility to make arrangements with an approved testing center for proctored exams through SmarterProctoring in the Canvas course.

Yes, you can view a copy of your syllabus prior to your class starting by viewing your student profile. You can access your student profile by clicking here.

MCC recommends viewing your student profile prior to classes starting as it provides valuable information regarding required textbooks, course materials, course grading scale, attendance policy, and much more.

Additionally, since attendance is based on submissions in a course, students should view their profile prior to logging into their online course and make submissions as soon as the course begins.
