Online Teaching Courses for K-12 Teachers
Meridian Community College is excited to offer local Mississippi resident K-12 teachers their choice of a free Digital Teaching and Learning course for the 2021 summer term (June 1 - July 23). Beginner and intermediate options are available!
This 8-week course will explore online/hybrid teaching tips and best practice use of Google Classroom, Canvas, Zoom, and Microsoft Teams, and review computer concepts, including Microsoft applications such as Word, PowerPoint, and Excel. The beginner course is free, requires no textbook, and will be project-based in lieu of a proctored exam. All participants will need reliable, regular access to the internet, as well as Microsoft Office (Meridian CC provides Office 365 to all students if you do not already have it). Successful completers of the beginner will earn college credit for CSC – 1113 Computer Concepts. It is a three-credit hour, college-level course.
For teachers interested in Continuing Education Units - this class offers 4.5 CEU's - if interested the cost is $15 for the CEU certification. Successful completers of the beginner course will receive a digital completion badge to send to the Meridian Community College Continuing Education office to process CEUs.
This 8-week course will dive deeper into online/hybrid teaching tips and best practice use of Canvas, how to create sound objectives and outcomes, and how to align them to assessments using Canvas Rubrics and Outcomes. This intermediate course will teach best practices, learning styles, engagement strategies, and pedagogy for facilitating online/hybrid instruction. You will also learn about some external and research-based tools that you can use for teaching using technology. The intermediate course is free, requires no textbook, and will be project-based in lieu of a proctored exam. All participants will need reliable, regular access to the internet, have prior knowledge using Canvas LMS, as well as Microsoft Office (Meridian CC provides Office 365 to all students if you do not already have it). Successful completers of the intermediate will earn college credit for BOT 1213 - Professional Development. It is a three-credit hour, college-level course.

Steps:
- Complete the Digital Teaching and Learning Course Form to reserve your seat.
- Complete and return the Nondegree MCC Admissions Application via email to jrober26@meridiancc.edu (be sure to sign and date your application).
- Request an official transcript from your last college/university attended to be sent
to MCC Admissions at admissions@meridiancc.edu (official transcripts must come from the college/university directly to MCC admissions).
If you enrolled in the beginner offering last year and have not attended college anywhere
else since that time, you may use your transcripts from last year. Please verify with
MCC Admissions.

Your licensure may not permit you to repeat a course, BUT you can still take the class and earn the CEUs for it. Be sure to check with your licensing agency.
