What happened?

A nationwide cybersecurity issue has been reported involving Canvas, the learning management system used by many schools, colleges, and universities. MCC is monitoring the situation and verifying any local impact.

Was MCC affected?

MCC is working to verify any local impact. We will share confirmed information through official MCC channels.

Was my personal information exposed?

National reports have referenced possible exposure of limited information such as names, email addresses, student ID numbers, and messages.

Were passwords or financial information exposed?

National reporting states that passwords and financial information have not been publicly confirmed as exposed in the Canvas incident. MCC advises students to remain cautious and use strong cybersecurity practices.

Should I change my MCC password?

If MCC IT determines a password reset is necessary for all users, MCC will communicate that through official channels.

What should I do if I cannot access Canvas?

Students should email their instructors using their MCC email account. Faculty will provide course-specific guidance if Canvas access affects assignments, tests, or deadlines.

How will I know if a message is really from MCC?

Official MCC messages will come through MCC email, EagleNet, the MCC website, or verified MCC social media accounts. Be cautious of messages asking you to click unfamiliar links, provide passwords, or log in through unusual pages.

What should I do if I receive a suspicious message?

Do not click links or open attachments. Report the message to MCC HelpDesk at helpdesk@meridiancc.edu or call 601.553.3414.

Will assignments or exams be extended?

Course-specific decisions will be made by instructors and academic leadership. Students should monitor MCC email for instructions from their instructors.

  • Never share your MCC password or authentication codes sent to your phone or personal email. MCC personnel will never request that information.

  • Do not click links in suspicious emails or text messages. Forward suspicious emails to the MCC HelpDesk.

  • Go directly to official MCC websites rather than using links from unknown senders.

  • Watch for urgent or threatening language, such as “your account will be closed today.”

  • Be cautious of messages claiming to offer Canvas refunds, grade changes, account recovery, or emergency access.

  • Use strong, unique passwords.

  • Report suspicious messages to MCC HelpDesk.

  • Contact your instructor directly if you are unsure about a Canvas message.
