Coding Technology

Coding Technology is designed to prepare students for employment in both traditional and web-based programming. The program trains students in computer operations management, web development and systems analysis and gives a strong foundation in applications in business and industry.

An Associate of Applied Science degree is earned upon successful completion of the program. Career certificate can also be obtained.

Progression:  To meet graduation requirements for this program, students must successfully complete the specified courses listed below with a “C” average (GPA of 2.00) or better. A grade of “C” or higher is required in each IST and MAT course to progress in the program.  

Minimum admission requirements (in addition to general admission requirements) must include the following:

  • Attain a 17 composite score on the ACT;
  • Score a 245 or higher on the ACCUPLACER Reading Section and an 230 or above on the Sentence Skills Section;
  • Earn a “B” or above in Intermediate English and Reading (ENG 0124) and a “B” or above in Beginning Algebra (MAT 0123);
  • Complete 15 semester hours of program general education coursework with an average of “C” or above at an accredited college or university. Developmental coursework does not satisfy this requirement; and attend an orientation session with the program coordinator when all other requirements are met.

 

Students in the Coding Technology Program must attend MCC full-time (15 or more semester credit hours).

The following courses should be taken in sequence. The program coordinator must approve any change.

Students must also successfully obtain the obtain either the MTA 98-381 Introduction to Programming using Python OR the MTA 98-382 Introduction to Programming using Java certifications in order to graduate with the 30-hour certificate.
